New Plans to Connect With Customers

With IWF cancelled for 2020 - Thermwood has put new plans into place to connect with our customers who won't get to see us live in Atlanta.

We are currently working to produce a series of Info Spot videos featuring our Cut Ready Cut Center, 3 Axis and 5 Axis CNC routers and LSAM (Large Scale Additive Manufacturing Systems) that highlight the capabilities of each, in addition to giving tips and tricks to help with tooling and fixturing.

The Thermwood team is always available to consult in the form of web demos/videos and time studies.  We are also ready to welcome customers to our Dale, Indiana, headquarters for in-person demonstrations, or use the web to stream live demonstrations if preferred.

At IWF, we had planned to demonstrate three of our machines.  First, our Cut Ready Cut Center, which allows users to make virtually anything a cabinet shop would want to make, with no programming required.

We were also planning to show the heavy-duty Model 45 (composites, plastics, nested base, aluminum, non-ferrous metal and wood) and the high-performance Model 43.

The Cut Center would really have been the star of our show. Once people see it in action, and understand how easy it is to operate, they love it.   The machine control actually walks the operator through the entire process, using a touch-screen interface to easily select and configure what they want to make.   

It also keeps track of all maintenance items (lubrication, tooling, filters, etc.), and handles selecting the correct tool and nesting the sheets for maximum efficiency. It also automatically prints labels for each part, as well as a diagram to apply them.

With this in mind, our first round of videos, or Info Spots will feature the Cut Center, and walk viewers through everything from understanding the differences between the Cut Center and a regular CNC router to operating the machine and selecting and cutting out cabinets.

The impeller was machined out of 6061 grade aluminum.  The tool path was completed in MasterCAM 2019, and had over 15 million lines of code.

Thermwood Advanced Technical Features

• Volumetric 3D Laser Compensation - this compensates for position errors within the three dimensional working envelope of the machine.
• Fixture Placement Compensation - Allows the user to mechanically locate three points on a fixture during intial program set up which are used as a reference for the QCore SuperControl to automatically align the program to the new fixture location. 
• Continuous C-Axis Rotation - allows the machine to perform complex motions that require multiple rotations of the C-Axis, and then quickly return to home. Simplifies operations and eliminates the possibility of damaged wire within movable joints (maintenance-free metal contacts provide log life with error-free data communication transmission).
• Constant Tip Speed Machining - Automatically varies the machine feed speed to allow the tip of the tool to maintain a constant speed.  This feature synchronizes the linear and rotary movements ensuring a constant and smooth cutting motion.
• Tip Center Rotation - Allows for maintaining tool tip positioning when commanding a rotary axis to move in coordination with two or more linear axes.
• Impact Resistant Head - A positive locating joint between the axis 5 arm and the rest of the machine.  Decreases the amount of force applied to the head in the event of a collision and diminishes the need to realignment.  Also reduces fixture and spindle damage.
• Remote Diagnostics - provides direct, live, visual contact from the machine control to Thermwood's Service department with the touch of a button.  Thermwood technicians can diagnose, troubleshoot and configure the control remotely.
• Advanced Communications - Communication features available between the operator and the Thermwood QCore SuperControl allow the operator to electronically search programming and maintenance manuals, view maintence videos, error reporting, maintenance tracking and dynamic exploded assembly drawings.
• Single Source Service - thermwood factory service for both the CNC Control System and the CNC Machine.  One phone number to call.

This part was machined on a Thermwood 5 Axis Dual Table 5'x'5 Model 90 CNC router.  

The bust was machined out of polyurethane low-density foam and took approximately 5-6 hours for the cycle time.  The tool path was completed in MasterCAM X9, and had over 1.6 million lines of code.
