Furniture Finishes for Cabinets

Many years ago, we teamed up with Valspar to try to bring furniture quality finishes to kitchen cabinets. The lacquer based fine finishes commonly used on furniture would not hold up to use in a kitchen environment, so jointly we developed a set of finishing materials that use pre-cat lacquer instead of furniture lacquer, which would be suitable for kitchen use. We then blended that with finishing techniques used on fine furniture to produce a high-quality cabinet finish.
The program was not commercially successful and was abandoned. Recently, we found copies of the original videos and decided to add them to our web site hoping it would help our cabinet customers. Although the specific materials used in the videos are not currently available from Thermwood, the techniques covered could be quite useful using similar materials available from other sources. An interesting note, some of the application techniques shown in these videos have been kept secret by furniture companies for many years. We hope they might help custom cabinet shops to enhance their finishes.
